William John Durrenberger, 85, of the 2700 block of Lynner Drive died of a heart ailment Tuesday at McAuley Manor in Aurora, Ill. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Basilica of St. Johns, of which he was a member. Entombment will be at Merle Hay Mausoleum.

Mr. Durrenberger was born in Wadena, Minn., and had lived in Des Moines since 1970. He was a retired career Army officer and a veteran of World War II. He was a member of American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by three sons, William Jr. of Sugar Grove, Ill., Robert of San Diego and Phillip of Des Moines a brother, Robert of Arizona and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Merle Hay Funeral Home, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to his church.

He was buried on 17 June 2002 at Merle Hay Mausoleum, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, USA.

Perham's Class of 1935 to Have Two Generals

Col. William J. Durrenberger, 48, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.G. Durrenberger of Perham, has been nominated by President Johnson for promotion to the rank of brigadier general. Col. Durrenberger is commander of the Tank Automotive Center, Warren, Michigan.

He becomes the second member of the Perham High School class of 1935 to attain the rank of general, joining Brig. Gen. Oaul A. Feyereisen.

William retired as a Major General in the U.S. Army.

     Lucie was born in 1823 at Québec, Canada.¹ She married Théodore Dalpé on 23 May 1843 at Ste-Marguerite-de-Blairfindie, L'Acadie, Saint-Jean, Québec, Canada.²

     Albert H. Dvorak was born in 1911.¹ He married Emelia (Emma) Fisher. Albert H. Dvorak was buried in 1979 at in Saint Wenceslaus Cemetery, Dickinson, Stark County, North Dakota, USA.¹ He died in 1979.¹

     Anna was born in 1894 at Russia. She married Vladislav (Lyle) Frank Fisher, son of Josef (Joseph) A. Fisher and Christine Tuhy, in 1913 at Stark County, North Dakota, USA.
     Anna immigrated to America in 1908.¹

     Agathe was born on 30 April 1853 at Rhein Parish, Wangen-Primisweiler, Württemberg, Germany. She was the daughter of Frans Josef Dürrenberger and Maria Josefa Stärk.

     Agathe was born on 6 May 1895 at Germany. She was the daughter of Bernhard Dürrenberger and Kresentia Fiezbinger. Agathe died 7 February 1964 at Germany at age 68.

     Anna was born on 24 December 1842 at Rhein Parish, Wangen-Primisweiler, Württemberg, Germany. She was the daughter of Frans Josef Dürrenberger and Maria Josefa Stärk.

Frans Josef Dürrenberger married Maria Josefa Stärk. Frans died 20 June 1887 at Rhein Parish, Wangen-Primisweiler, Württemberg, Germany, at age 75.

     Gebhard was born on 27 June 1848 at Rhein Parish, Wangen-Primisweiler, Württemberg, Germany. He was the son of Frans Josef Dürrenberger and Maria Josefa Stärk.

     Obituary of Gephard Durenberger

     The most unexpected death of Gephard Durenberger, Sr. came on Sunday morning at about 6 o'clock and terminated a long and busy life.
     The deceased was born in Wittemberg, Germany on January 27, 1818 and was past 82 years of age. He came to the U.S. in 1855 and took up a claim in Henderson township where he resided 19 years, when he moved to Lake Praire township, Nicollet county, where he resided 16 years, retiring then and removing to this city where he since resided. For 35 years he enjoyed farming. By hard work, strict economy, and the increase in the value of the land, he acquired quite a modest competence, in addition to raising a family of 9 children.
     He married Thressa Miller on May 21, 1859, his wife and children surviving him, his being the first inroad death has made in the family circle. His children grown and engaged in business in various places are: Mrs. Theresa Hoffman, Henderson; Antone of Wells; Gephard, Jr. of Lake Praire; Joseph, St James; Mrs. Leo Simmonette (wife of John Simmonette, Jr.) Le Sueur Center; Theodore of Rock Rapids, Iowa; August of Marshall; Mrs. William Thomas, St Peter; and Miss Mary Durenberger, Le Sueur. All of the children were able to visit him before his death and all attended the funeral, which was from St. Anne's Church at 10 A.M. on Tuesday.

     He emigrated from Württemberg, Germany on 24 June 1854 to Henderson Township, Sibley County, Minnesota, USA. He petitioned the District Court of Ramsey Co. to become a citizen on 14 July 1855 at in Saint Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota, USA. He was a farmer in 1860 at Henderson Township, Sibley County, Minnesota, USA.

     Hedwig was born on 3 November 1933 at Germany. He is the son of Gebhard Dürrenberger and Maria Holtz.

     Josef was born. He was the son of Martin Dürrenberger. Josef Dürrenberger married Ursula Stäub at Württemberg, Germany. Josef died 11 December 1795 at Rhein Parish, Wangen-Primisweiler, Württemberg, Germany.
