Life Events and Notes

EventDateDetails
Birth1831James Gordon was born in 1831 at Sheffield, Yorkshire, England.1
He was the son of William Gordon and Margaret McNay (Nae).
Marriage4 March 1857James Gordon married Elizabeth McKean, daughter of James McKean J.P. and Margaret McClymont (Clement), on 4 March 1857 at Laurel Villa, Gatehouse of Fleet, Girthon Parish, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland.2
NoteMarch 1857According to an article in the Wigtown (Scotland) newspaper, at the time of his wedding to Margaret Elizabeth McKean, James was residing at the Manor House, North Riding, Yorkshire, England. He was employed as the land agent for the Right Honorable Lord Greenock.
Will3 May 1873James Gordon left a will on 3 May 1873 at Tondu, Bridgend, Glamorgan, Wales.

Last Will and Testament of James Gordon
3 May 1873

This is the last Will and Testament of me James Gordon of Tondu in the County of Glamorgan, Land Agent, made this third day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy three I give all my property, real and personal, and whatsoever the same may be unto my dear wife Elizabeth, and I appoint her sole Executrice of this my Will.

As Witness my hand - Jas Gordon

Tho. Stockwood, Solcitor, Bridgend
A.O. Stockwood, his clerk

The Will received a Grant of Probate on 20 April 1892, Lib 9, Fol 22 (Waterford, Ireland.)
Note1892The double wide bural plot for Elizabeth in the Oakland Cemetery in Saint Paul, Minnesota was meant for Elizabeth and her husband James Gordon. The grave marker shows both of their names. However, the plot plan for the burial area shows Elizabeth's casket buried in the middle of the two plots. James Gordon died about 1892 in Cooladerry, Ireland and is buried nearby at Kilbehenny, Ireland.3
Death20 March 1892He died on 20 March 1892 of sudden failure of heart action with no medical attendant at Cooladerry, Clogheen, County Tipperary, Ireland.4
Burial23 March 1892He was buried on 23 March 1892 at Protestant Cemetery-Saint David's Graveyard in Kilbehenny, County Limerick, Ireland.

The Kilbehenny burial record read:
"Kilbehenny Parish, Diocese of Emly- register 1876 - James Gordon Cooladerry, buried 23/03/1892 by  D.O`Sullivan. & R.M. Miller. M.A Kilbehenny."
Probate21 April 1892His estate was probated on 21 April 1892 at Waterford, County Waterford, Ireland. Probate of the Estate of James Gordon
Calendars of Will and Administrators 1858-1922

21 April 1892

The Will of James Gordon formerly of Tondue, Glamorgan, Wales and late of Cooladerry, County Tipperary, Land Steward, who died 20 March 1892 at Cooladerry was proved at Waterford by Elizabeth Gordon of Cooladerry, Widow, the sole Executor.

Effects £657 6 s. 3d.5
NoteJames died in Cooladerry, Ireland in 1892 where he was employed as a "land steward". His Will was probated later that year at Waterford, Ireland.

In 1894 his wife Elizabeth, daughter Nora and son William emmigrated to America. His wife Elizabeth died in 1900 in Saint Paul, Minnesota and is buried in Oakland Cemetery. The monument marker on her grave would indicate that James, who died in 1892 is also buried there but the cemetery records indicate that only Elizabeth is buried in that plot. James was buried in Kilbehenny Ireland. There doesn't seem to be a grave marker for him and a portion of the cemetery was built over by a Community Center so the question remain, where exactly is he buried in the local cemetery.
