Mrs. William H. Weibeler Is Dead

End Is Sudden - When Hopes For Recovery Are Strongest, Death Ends the Long Trail. Funeral Is a Most Remarkable Spectacle. Friends Assemble From Far and Near and Funeral is Large Beyond Comparison

     Mrs. William Weibeler died on Saturday noon, Nov. 2nd, 1907.
     Seldom has a death in the community aroused such a universal concern. Through a long and lingering illness, the family and friends were somewhat prepared for this end, yet hope for recovery had never ceased and the shock of death was keenly felt by the sorrowing family and wide circle of friends.
     She was the daughter of the late Christian Schmitt and was born in Doerbach, Germany, June 6, 1852. She came with her parents to this country in 1867, and after staying for a short while in Chicago, came to Belle Plaine in the same year.
     In 1873 she was married to William H. Weibeler. Eleven children were born to them, of whom ten are living; namely, Gerhard H., Miss Mayme, Frank, Peter, Miss Katherine, William, Miss Clara, Miss Angela, John and Christian. Besides her husband and children, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. S. Bowler, of Denver, Colo., and two brothers, Jacob and Matt Schmitt of Belle Plaine.
     The floral offerings were the largest and most beautiful ever seen here. Various local societies, businessmen's organizations and private individuals presented a wealth of flowers.
     During the funeral which was held on Wednesday morning, all places of business and the public school was closed. The funeral was the largest that has ever been witnessed in Belle Plaine. St. Peter and Paul's church was crowded as it has never been, and the occasion of the burial of this most esteemed woman brought so many here from abroad that the number of visitors, it would seem, was the greatest that had ever gathered here. The widespread interest and sympathy expressed in the death of Mrs. Weibeler by this great concourse of people represents the degree in which she was beloved and to which the knowledge of her beautiful personality had spread.
     A solemn requiem mass was celebrated with Father Raymond as the celebrant. Father Guido, O. F. M., of Chaska; Father Rufinius, O. F. M., of Waconia; Father Suitbertus, O. F. M. of St. Benedict; and Father Herbert O. F. M., of Union Hill, occupied places in the sanctuary. Father Raymond preached the funeral sermon.
     Among the many who came to the funeral were Mrs. S. Bowler, of Denver, Col., Mr. and Mrs. H. Theviot, of Brainerd; Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Hilgers, of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nicolin, Mrs. John Bailey and Joe Schmitt of St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Gericke, of Lake Mills, Wis; Peter and Matt Monzel, of Webster, S. D. The number from the neighboring places of Jordan, Shakopee, Henderson, LeSueur, Green Isle, Norwood and numerous other adjoining localities was very large.

     Kathryn was born on 18 January 1962 at in Saint Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota, USA. She is the daughter of William Joseph Schmitt and Edith June Treat. She married Singbeh F. Bono at in Saint Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota, USA.

     Katie was born in 1883 at North Dakota, USA. She was the daughter of Nicholas E. Schmitt and Eva Pontius.

     Kent was born on 9 January 1976 at Scott County, Minnesota, USA.¹ He is the son of Steven Constant Schmitt and Helen Marie Luce.

     Leadena was born on 17 January 1912 at Minnesota, USA.² She was the daughter of Constantine Leo Schmitt and Katie Verkennes. She married Nicholas M. Radermacher on 24 November 1932. Leadena died 26 September 1956 at Scott County, Minnesota, USA, at age 44.²

     Lois was born on 21 December 1926 at Minnesota, USA. She was the daughter of Christian Hubert Schmitt and Alice Laura Thiel. She married Russell William Fraenkel on 29 May 1952. Lois died 11 April 1993 at Hennepin County, Minnesota, USA, at age 66. She was buried on 15 April 1993 at in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, South Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, USA.²

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR LORRAINE SCHMITT ON FRIDAY MORNING.
The unexpected death of Lorraine Ann Schmitt at her home Tuesday morning came as a shock to the community. She had not been known to have been ill.

She was the daughter of Jacob Schmitt and wife, nee Marie Schommer Schmitt, and was born in Belle Plaine 41 years ago, and Belle Plaine has been her home all her life. For the past 13 years she has been employed as secretary at the plant of Minn Valley Milk. She is survived by her mother and two sisters, Marcella and Mary Lou.

Visitation at Hayes Mortuary after 2 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be at St. Peter and Paul's church at 10 a.m. Friday, Father Gerald officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.

REMEMBERED BY MANY HERE, MRS. F. J. GERICKE DIED AT HOME IN GARY, IND.

     Mrs. Fred J. Gericke, nee Louise Schmitt, died last Saturday morning at her home in Gary, Indiana, and the funeral was held there on Tuesday morning. Her brother, Joe E. Schmitt, sister Mrs. Frank Monzell of St. Paul, and sister-in-law Mrs. P. J. Schmitt of Jordan, left for Gary to attend the funeral. No information is available as to the cause of death.
     Mrs. Gericke was born in Belle Plaine on August 24th, 66 years ago, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Schmitt. Here she grew to womanhood, and will be best remembered by the familiar name of "Wishie Schmitt." She was married to Fred J. Gericke, one of our popular young businessmen of the time, and Belle Plaine continued to be their residence for some years after their marriage.
     About 35 years ago the family moved to Lake Mills, Wis., where they resided for many years, later locating at Gary, Indiana. Retired from active pursuits for some time, Mr. and Mrs. Gericke were enjoying the fruits of their labors in a pleasant home and travel. Their last visit to Belle Plaine was two years ago.
     She is survived by her husband, six sons and three daughters, namely, Fred, Julius, Edward, Robert and Philip Gericke, Mrs. Mercedes Volkman of Gary, Ind; Raymond Gericke of Oakland, Calif., and Mrs. Dorothy Hatter of Jefferson, Wisc.
     Three brothers and four sisters also mourn her passing, William and John Schmitt of St. Paul, Joe E. Schmitt of Belle Plaine, Mrs. Frank Monzel, Elisabeth Schmitt, Mrs. Alma Topping, Mrs. Clara Mullen and Angela Schmitt, all of St. Paul.

     Lucille was born on 5 April 1909 at Jordan, Scott County, Minnesota, USA. She is the daughter of Peter Jacob Schmitt and Louisa Antonin Pilney. She married Leroy (Roy) Joseph Beckman on 25 June 1936.

     Lucille was born on 27 August 1937 at Scott County, Minnesota, USA.¹ She is the daughter of Christian Hubert Schmitt and Alice Laura Thiel. She married Loren Worm on 7 April 1956.

     Marcella was born on 17 May 1924 at Belle Plaine, Scott County, Minnesota, USA. She is the daughter of Jacob Leo Schmitt and Marie A. (Mame) Schommer.

     Margaret was born on 13 April 1919 at Belle Plaine, Scott County, Minnesota, USA. She is the daughter of Joseph Emmanuel Schmitt and Anna Catherine Ditz. She married George Stoffa on 29 May 1957 at Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Colorado, USA.

     Margaret was born on 7 March 1920 at Belle Plaine, Scott County, Minnesota, USA. She is the daughter of William Hubert (Buck) Schmitt and Jessie Cecelia Horn. She married Maynard Johnson. She married Wardell Steele.

     Margaretha was born on 2 March 1829 at Oberemmel, Trier-Saarburg, Rhineland-Pfalz, Germany. She died at Oberemmel, Trier-Saarburg, Rhineland-Pfalz, Germany. She was the daughter of Johann Jacob Schmitt and Katherine Kopp.

     Margaretha was born on 20 June 1858 at Minnesota, USA. She was the daughter of Nicholas Schmitt and Catherine Nilles. She married Patrick W. Gallagher in 1884 at Minnesota, USA. Margaretha died circa 1935 at Seattle, King County, Washington, USA. Her body was interred circa 1935, , at Seattle, King County, Washington, USA.

     Maria was born on 13 March 1810 at Oberemmel, Trier-Saarburg, Rhineland-Pfalz, Germany. She died on 14 March 1810 at Oberemmel, Trier-Saarburg, Rhineland-Pfalz, Germany. She was the daughter of Johann Jacob Schmitt and Katherine Kopp.

     Maria was born on 3 April 1831 at Tünsdorf, Merzig-Wadern, Saarland, Germany. She married Nicholas Peifer on 25 February 1851 at Tünsdorf, Merzig-Wadern, Saarland, Germany. Maria died 23 May 1907 at Oberlenken, Germany, at age 76.

     Maria was born on 9 August 1842 at Oberemmel, Trier-Saarburg, Rhineland-Pfalz, Germany. She was the daughter of Michel Schmitt and Susanna Schmitt. Maria Schmitt married Christian Baden in 1865 at Oberemmel, Trier-Saarburg, Rhineland-Pfalz, Germany. Maria died May 1888 at age 45. She died in childbirth.

     Marie was born on 24 May 1907. She was the daughter of Peter Jacob Schmitt and Louisa Antonin Pilney. She married Maynard H. Aderhold. Marie died 29 January 1971 at age 63.

     Marie was born on 16 November 1900 at Stearns County, Minnesota, USA. She was the daughter of Christian J. Schmitt and Mary (Maria) Molitor. Marie died 25 January 1980 at Saint Louis County, Minnesota, USA, at age 79.¹

     Martin was born on 21 January 1808 at Oberemmel, Trier-Saarburg, Rhineland-Pfalz, Germany. He was the son of Johann Jacob Schmitt and Katherine Kopp. He died on 28 September 1808 at Oberemmel, Trier-Saarburg, Rhineland-Pfalz, Germany.

     Mary was born on 1 March 1855 at Doerbach, Bernkastel-Wittlich, Rhineland-Pfalz, Germany. She was the daughter of Christian L. Schmitt and Angeline Hansen. She married Samuel Bowler on 19 July 1880 at Scott County, Minnesota, USA. Mary died 13 February 1914 at Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas, USA, at age 58. She was buried in February 1914 at Denver, Denver County, Colorado, USA.
