KINDLY AGED MAN IS CALLED. ALBERT SCHMITT LIVED IN BELLE PLAINE FOR SIXTY-FOUR YEARS.

Albert Schmit, one of Belle Plaine's oldest residents, died Wednesday night of last week, September 13, at his home here. He had been in failing health for a long time. While confined to his home since last winter, he was nevertheless able to be about the house most of the time. His age was 85 years, 6 months and 20 days.

Albert Schmitt was a native of Austria. At the age of 21 he came to this country and located in Belle Plaine. Four years later he married Mary Nesius, who also lived here at the time, and this community was the home of the couple throughout their lifetime. His wife died five years ago.

Surviving him are four children, namely; Mrs. Nic Verkinnes of St. Cloud, Gust Schmitt of Carver, Lawrence and Jac. of Belle Plaine; 23 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He also leaves one sister, Lena Schmitt, of St. Paul. Two daughters preceded their father in death.

During the many years among us, Albert Schmitt showed himself to be a hard-working, industrious, kindly man. His lot in life was that of a laborer and during those earlier years he toiled in the brickyard and on the railroad section. As long as his health permitted and he was able to work, he missed no opportunity to engage in honest toil. Quiet and unassuming he had the respect of everyone.

The funeral was held Saturday morning with requiem mass at Sts. Peter and Paul's church at 9 o'clock. Father Miller officiated and burial was in the family lot in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were Chris, Urban and Raymond Schmitt, Al Schommer, Milton Norman and Tony Krekelberg. Those who came from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Nic Verkinnes and daughter Helen from St. Cloud, Lena Schmitt, Marian Verkinnes, Sister Bernall, from St. Paul, Mr. and Mrs. Gust Schmitt, son Raymond, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Benty and son from Carver, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Grausam and Grandpa Grausam from Waconia, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Norman and family, Mrs. Mary Norman and Mrs. Morisette from Henderson, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Schmitt and Mr. and Mrs. Ras Nelson from Jordan.

She married Harry Roy Topping on 2 September 1919 at in Saint Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota, USA. Alma was divorced from Harry Roy Topping circa 1925 at in Saint Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota, USA. Alma died 26 February 1990 at Dakota County, Minnesota, USA, at age 96.²

     Angela was born on 15 August 1915. She is the daughter of Peter Jacob Schmitt and Louisa Antonin Pilney.

     Angela was born in 1869 at Belle Plaine, Scott County, Minnesota, USA. She was the daughter of Nicholas Schmitt and Catherine Nilles. Angela died 15 February 1876 at Belle Plaine, Scott County, Minnesota, USA.

     Angela was born on 12 June 1899 at Belle Plaine, Scott County, Minnesota, USA. She was the daughter of Jacob (Jake) Schmitt and Katharine Margareta Becker. Angela died 21 May 1974 at Ramsey County, Minnesota, USA, at age 74.²
