Lionel was born on 23 July 1886 at Little Falls, Morrison County, Minnesota, USA. (Per World War I Draft Registration). He was the son of Jean Baptiste Richard and Aurelie Melvina Marie (Ora Lee) Lord. He married Mary Mayme McGuire circa 1914. Lionel died on 5 November 1955 of coronary thrombosis at Spokane, Spokane County, Washington, USA, at age 69.1
He registered for World War I military service on 5 June 1917 at Zillah, Yakina County, Washington, USA.2 He was a store owner and operator of Chewelah Hardware at Chewelah, Stevens County, Washington, USA.

Uncle Dick, as I knew him, and Aunt Mayme, lived about three blocks from our home in Chewelah. My father, Henry, first came to Chewelah and bought a drug store, calling it, appropriately, Richard Drug. Some years later, his brother, Dick, joined him in Chewelah and Dick opened a hardware, called Chewelah Hardware. The two stores were just one block apart.
I remember working for my Dad in the drug store until about the age of 13, for 10 cents/hour. That was plus everything I could eat in the soda fountain and all the comic books I could read. I went to work for my Uncle Dick in the hardware store for 25 cents/hour but no fringe benefits. My Aunt Mayme also worked there, and she saw to it that whenever I was not busy in the hardware section, I would dust shelves in the glassware and nicknack section of the store. They were very close to my parents and to me all those years when I was growing up.
