Obituary of Annie Meyer
Wabasso Standard, Redwood County, Minnesota
July 18, 1902
Mrs. Nicholas Welter Passes Away After a Lingering Illness
As stated in last week's issue of the Standard, Mrs. Nicholas Welter died at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Meyer, Thursday morning, July 10, at three o'clock. The cause of her untimely death was consumption.
Early last September Mrs. Welter contracted a cold, and that it would result in such disastrous consequences was never for a moment considered. As time went on and she could get no relief, a physician was summoned during the early part of January and he pronounced it a case on consumption. From that tome on her health rapidly failed her. About ten weeks ago she wrote from her home in Wood Lake, to her parents here that she thought she had but a short time to remain on this earth, and these she wanted to spend at her old home. Her father accordingly drove over to Wood Lake and brought her and the children to his farm home. About a week later her husband joined her and he has remained here ever since.
Mrs. Welter, nee Annie Meyer, was born in Wisconsin, May 9, 1871. In 1872 she removed with her parents to Redwood County on the farm where she spent her last days on earth. Eleven years ago last January she was married to Nicholas Welter and removed to Wood Lake, where she resided until a few weeks ago. For eight years her husband owned a harness shop at that place.
She was a devout Christian and a member of the Methodist church. Her end was peaceful, indeed she went like one who wraps the drapery of her couch about her and lies down to pleasant dreams. She bowed without murmur to the will of God and Savior, in whom she trusted. As a faithful daughter, wife and mother her work was ended.
Besides her husband and five children, three girls and two boys, she leaves her mother and father, brothers and sisters to mourn her seemingly untimely departure, to seek re-union in the mansions of the skies.
The funeral took place Saturday afternoon. A brief service was held at the home at 1 o'clock, and at 2 o'clock the remains were taken to the Presbyterian church, where Rev, Frederickson preached an impressive sermon. Many teams followed in the funeral cortege to the New Avon cemetery, where the remains found a lasting resting place.
H. Meyer, grandfather to the children, says the bereaved little ones will share in the comforts of the old home, as he wants them to stay together.
Among those from abroad who attended the funeral were, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Menke of Fon de Lac, Wis., C.W.Hauck, Mrs. J.P. Hauck, Mrs. Schlenner, Mrs. Sperber and Miss Lizzie Sperber, all from Wood Lake.
