Weston-Super-Mare

A pretty wedding was celebrated in the Weston-super-Mare parish church on Tuesday afternoon, the bridegroom being Mr. Thomas Pethick (second son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pethick, Trewartha, Weston-super-Mare), and the bride Miss Ida Naylor MacDonald (only daughter of the late Mr. R.G. MacDonald of Kew Gardens, and Mrs. MacDonald, Rosebank, Weston-super-Mare.

By reason of his athletic achievements Mr. Tom Pethick is well known, not only in Weston, but throughout the country, he having obtained his international cap as a hockey player, whilst for one season he was given a place in the county Rugby football team.

The bride was dressed in white Liberty satin, with a lace train lined with silver, and ornamented with white and silver Empire, the skirt being wreathed with silver orange flowers. She also wore a Honiton lace veil lent by Mrs. Pethick. Her diamond broach was the gift of Mrs. MacDonald, and her bouquet the gift of the bridegroom.

There were six bridesmaids, viz., Miss D. Pethick, Miss Barclay, Miss E. Spencer, Miss H. and Miss M. Meiklejohn, and Miss Daisy Patterson each of whom was attired in a dress of cream silk poplin, with long full skirt, and a deep band of panne velvet at the hem. The bodice was trimmed with lace frilled fichus, with panne velvet and gold buckles. They also carried bouquets of pink carnations, and wore turquoise pendants, the gifts of the bridegroom.

The bride was given away by her brother, and Mr. H. Penthick (brother of the bridegroom) acted as best man. The ceremony was performed by the Rector, assisted by the Rev. R. MacDonnell.

A largely-attended reception was afterwards held at the Royal Hotel, and later Mr. and Mrs. Pethick left for London for their honeymoon.3
