Sylvester "Wes" Mans, age 96, of Mankato, died on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at Hillcrest Health Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 16 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Brian Sutton officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3-6 at Landkamer-Johnson-Boman Funeral Home with a 5:30 p.m. rosary. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Wes was born on July 3, 1912 in Nicollet County to Joseph and Mary Catherine (Schons) Mans. He farmed on the family farm until 1950, was a boiler engineer at Good Counsel Academy, and closed out his career with 18 years at Honeymead in Mankato. Wes was a member of the Eagles Club #269 and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He loved going for drives in the countryside and dancing. Wes enjoyed woodworking, baking, cookies, and feeding the birds.

Wes is survived by one son, Phil (Jan) Mans of Mankato; two daughters, Mary B. (Orvin) Brincks-Buchholz of rural Tuttle ND and Kathy (Steve) Solko-Manternach of Nevada, IA; grandchildren: Douglas (Rhonda) Brincks of Kasson, Joseph (Nicole) Brincks of Minot, ND, Jennifer (Richmond) Mans of Mapleton, Paul (Lindsey) Solko and Joseph Solko of West Des Moines, IA, Kate (Kyle) Solko of Ames, IA, Dana Forbrook of Mankato, Wyman (Kim) Forbrook of Lake Crystal, Leslie (Todd) Anderson of Edmonds, WA, Val Buchholz of Tuttle, ND, Dee Buchholz and Christy (Josh) Mehlhoff of Bismarck, ND; 21 great-grandchildren; one brother, Joe (Bonnie) Mans of Shakopee; two sisters, Isabelle (Jim) Reasner and Bernice Thurston both of Mankato; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by 3 wives: Rosemary, Margaret, and Virginia, infant daughter, 2 brothers, Norbert and Bernard, 2 sisters, Lucy and Margaret, 12 brothers-in-law, 5 sisters-in-law, 3 nephews, 1 niece, and 3 great-grandchildren.May God many times bless the care givers from Hillcrest Health Care Center and ISJ Hospice.
