     IONE SCHMITT
     Ione (Heisler) Schmitt, age 74, formerly of Rock Island, Illinois, died Sunday, May 7 at St Therese Care Center in Crystal.
     Mrs. Schmitt was born June 7, 1920 at Milaca, Minnesota. The family moved to Fargo, North Dakota where she attended grade and high school. She graduated from Moorehead State University with a Minnesota teaching certificate. She taught school at Cambridge and Belle Plaine. On June 21, 1945 she married Roman I. Schmitt of Belle Plaine. While Roman served in the US Marine Corps, they lived in Cherry Point, North Carolina. Roman was an electrical engineer with the Iowa-Illinois Gas and Light Company. Following Roman's death in June, 1967, Ione went to Mary Crest College in Davenport and was certified to teach in the Rock Island school district. She retired from teaching in 1984. She became a resident of St. Therese Care Center in 1990.
     She is survived by three sisters, Doreen, Charlotte and her husband Wayne, and Jeanette and her husband Harry; two brothers, Tom, and his wife, Faye, Ed and his wife Phyllis, and sisters-in-law, Florence Schmitt, Bernice Winter, brother-in-law, Norb Schmitt and his wife, Grace, and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, May 10 at St. Raphael Chapel, New Hope. Burial was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.. She was buried on 10 May 1995 at in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, South Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, USA. Her funeral was held on 10 May 1995 at Saint Raphael's Chapel, New Hope, Hennepin County, Minnesota, USA.
