(see notes under Jean Huffman for more):

Larry had colic for 4 months. Every evening from 4-8, he cried. Milk was rich and he was gaining, but his tummy hurt. The neighbors on the other side of the house came and rocked him sometimes. They had a restaurant out front, and came back in at midnight, going upstairs noisily. This would awaken Larry and Mom would have to feed him again, but by that time he was worn out and so was Mom.

When Karen started to school, Larry missed her and he came in from playing on a swing in the backyard. He said, 'I heard a noise in the tree, and it wasn't me!' He finally learned to play by himself.

A neighbor boy would always want to fight Larry, but Larry would not defend himself, just come home to Mom, crying. Finally Mom said, 'You go hit him back and maybe then he will quit.' This is what he did and afterward they got along great, no more fighting.

Death2013Larry died in 2013.

NoteMemories of the Basil Jones Family, with information from Jean Huffman Jones, written by Coley Sharp

(see notes under Jean Huffman for more):

Paul was a happy baby. He didn't think Mom could say No to him, but she did. Paul would get up to a floor lamp and stand there, shaking it. Mom would say, 'No!' He would just grin and shake it more. He got his hands smacked and would go back down to the floor to try something else.

When Paul was 2 or 3 he would say, 'Amen!' for Pastor Rowe when he was preaching. Before that, Paul would stand up in the pew beside Mom and Dad and he'd turn around and make faces to entertain the people behind them. After the church service he would stand at the door beside Pastor Rowe and shake hands with everybody.

When Karen got married, the family missed her, so they got a dog, part Cocker and part Collie; they named her 'Bootsie.' When they got her home, Paul took his cello out by the refridgerator so he would be right by Bootsie's dish while she was eating. Mom doesn't know what kind of music she preferred, but, 'Oh, Well!' She heard him say to Bootsie, 'Now remember, I'm your friend. If you need anything at all, just tell me and I'll get it for you.' He was 6 years old then. This was the beginning of a beautiful friendship, not only with Paul, but with the whole family. She lived with them for 11 years.

Obituary17 July 2018Obituary for Winson Jones
as appeared in the Layfayette Journal & Courier (Indiana)
and the Monticello Herald Journal (Indiana)

Winson (Wink) Jones, formerly of Chalmers, died July 9, 2018, from cancer. Winson was born November 5, 1925 and graduated from Chalmers High School. In 1943 he enlisted in the United States Army Air Force and served as a top-turret gunner on a B-24 Liberator Bomber during World War II. Following training, mostly at the age of 18, he flew 35 missions over Europe with the 451st Bomb Group (15th Air Force) operating from a base in Southern Italy. On his very first mission his Bomb Group encountered heavy opposition from German fighter planes, resulting in the loss of 9 of the 27 bombers participating. His Bomb Group received the Presidential Unit Citation for this mission. During his war service, his Bomb Crew survived a forced landing off Yugoslavia and hundreds of flak holes in its plane. While there were two casualties, all crew members survived. Winson always considered this experience to be the most difficult challenge of his lifetime, coupled with the feeling that he subsequently was more or less living on borrowed time. He served as Manager for four National Reunions of the 451st Bomb Group.

Following World War II, Winson attended Indiana University, where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, and he played on the Ernie Pyle American Legion Post basketball team. During his summer breaks from college, Winson joined with Dusty Nelson and Ted Townsley of Chalmers and JD Hendryx and Hugh Alan Maxwell of Brookston as almost nightly regulars at the Indiana Beach dances enjoying the Big Bands of that era. Throughout his lifetime, Winson treasured returning to Indiana annually to visit with his relatives and life-long friends.
Winson was a member of the Chalmers American Legion Post and an active supporter of various church and civic activities in the Chalmers Community. Through the White County Community Foundation, he established a fund providing annual, on-going financial awards annually to two graduating seniors at Frontier High School for outstanding citizenship achievement.

He graduated from IU with high distinction in the upper one percent of his class in 1949 and commenced his business career as a Certified Public Accountant in Chicago. He became a General Partner with Alexander Grant & Company and served as a consultant for several years during the Eisenhower Administration in Washington, D. C. This included coordinating the development and installation of an electronic data payment system for processing the Post Office Department?s payroll of 500,000 employees. During this period, he attended functions in the White House and met three U.S. presidents and their wives.

In 1961, Winson was transferred to Seattle as managing partner of his firm?s Northwest office. He subsequently served as Chief Financial Officer for the Isaacson Corporation and before retiring in 2005 had been President of Jones & Murphy Incorporated for many years, primarily involved with investing in large apartment and condominium complexes in the West Coast area.

Winson was an avid golfer and was a former member of the Sunland Golf & Country Club at Sequim, where he and his wife maintained a second home, and he was the coordinator of twenty-five golfers known as the Jones Group at the Willows Run Golf Club at Redmond, Washington.
He is survived by his wife Diane of Sequim, Washington, a daughter Marsha Morris of Kirkland, Washington, a son Michael (Kathy) Smeltzer of Champaign, Illinois, a son Craig (Jennine) Jones of Lynnwood, Washington, and two step children, Susan (Sandy) Gordon of Sequim, Washington and David Fisher of San Diego, California, along with several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews
Winson is predeceased by his parents, Manson L. and Lucinda (Wakeman) Jones, of Chalmers and by four brothers, Basil, James, Russell and Gerald Franklin together with four sisters, Marie, Hattie, Bertha and Stella.

Internment is at Sequim View Cemetery in Sequim, Washington.
Memorials are suggested for the Chalmers Community Church, Chalmers Cemetery Corporation, and the Chalmers American Legion.

Joseph passed away Monday, March 4, at St. Benedict's Health Center in Dickinson.
Joseph J. "Joe" Kadrmas was born Sept. 24, 1911, in Dunn County, the son of J.J. and Marie (Kubik) Kadrmas. He attended country school and Roosevelt Elementary through the eighth grade.
On Oct. 26, 1938, Joe married Mildred L. Fisher. They moved to a farm northwest of Dickinson where they raised grain, dairy cattle and beef cattle. To this union, Joan, Arnold, Linda and Doug were born.
They moved to Dickinson in 1976, making it their home since. Always a farmer at heart, Joe loved nothing more than drives in the country to check out the crops.
He enjoyed bowling, having coffee with his friends and playing pool with his grandchildren. In his early years, he enjoyed fishing and pheasant hunting.
Joe was skilled at repairing the broken and refurbishing the worn. He was always appreciative of all things. He often looked for the positive in conversations, reassuring everyone that "things could be worse."
In his later years, Joe called St. Benedict's his home.
Joe was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 4th Degree Knight of Council 1515 and Catholic Workman. He also made hundreds of rosaries which he gave to family, friends and the missions.
