Minnie utimately left New Caledonia and moved to Sysney where she became a music teacher.1

A woman, later identified as Marion Ellen de Greslan, 68, of Mosman, near Sydney, jumped over the cliffs at The Gap, near Watson's Bay, on Monday afternoon, and plunged to her death in the sea below.4

While engaged over a fire, her clothes caught, and although she strove her very utmost to extinguish the flame, was frightfully burnt on the lower part of the body, hauns, and forearms. Dr. Reid has done all in his power for the sufferer, but cannot as yet speak definitely as to result.

The wedding of Miss Olive Maud Hughan. eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hughan. of Carterton, and Mr. Stanley Charles Treweek, second son of Mr. and Mrs. F. Treweek, of Palmerston North, took place in All Saints' Church last Saturday, when the Rev R Young, of Carterton. officiated. The bride wore a violet costume and hat to match, and carried a prayer book with violet streamers. Miss Rene Hughan attended her, and wore a pretty frock of peach-coloured silk, and a black crepe-de-chine hat with purple pansies, and carried a bouquet of pink anemones and maidenhair. Mr. Harold Beere was the best man. Mr and Mrs. Stanley Treweek left for a trip to Wellington.

Death of a Mountain Veteran

OSCAR HUGHAN, AGE 96.

Within sight of his centenary - a milestone he always vowed he would mark with a "'rattling good jollo" - grand old man, Oscar Hughan, died at his home, "Glen Iris," Bathurst road, Wentworth Falls, on Thursday last, at the ripe old age of 96 years. Deceased was a wonderful man, of exceptional attainments and great literary ability. He carried his declining years with the vigour and virility of many a man of 50. With the pen and in person, Oscar Hughan was the personification of rugged masculinity — a rough aschler through and through. He was a great writer of both poetry and prose, and, under his different pen-names, contributed largely to all the papers in the Commonwealth and many over-sea magazines.

During his long life the late Oscar Hughan had drained the bitters and sweets of all cups on this world's sideboard. His experience was sound, without becoming embittered, and his heart and his actions at all times as big as himself. A brief sketch of his life, from the pen of a friend of the inky way, will appear in our next issue. Suffice for the present, he passed away peacefully in his sleep — the old sword rusted out in its scabbard — and was laid to rest in the Church of England portion of the Wentworth Falls Cemetery, Rev. A J. Fraser officiating at the graveside. Frost and Co., of Katoomba carried out the funeral, all arrangements being perfect.2

Psgr List23 January 1854William Hughan was found on a passenger list on 23 January 1854 at Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. William arrived in Melbourne aboard the ship "Boomerang" which sailed from Liverpool, England on 5 November 1853. Also onboard was his mother Mary and siblings Thomas, Christina and Mary. Another sister, Janet, died on board the ship just days before it landed in Melbourne.4
Deathcirca 1909William died circa 1909.
